Colliery Tours 2023

Visit the historic Foxfield Colliery

The heart of the Foxfield Railway.

Opened in 1880, the Foxfield Colliery was the raison d’etre of the Foxfield Railway: book a guided tour of the colliery buildings and spend some time in the Colliery Visitor Centre to learn more about the history of the colliery, as well as the role of women, children and animals in coal mining.

The Paint Store Café will also be available for hot and cold drinks and snacks.

Guided Tours

Tours generally take place on the third Sunday of every month. The colliery will be open from 10am to 3.30pm.

Guided tours are available for groups of up to a maximum of 12. Unfortunately, due to uneven surfaces, the tours are not suitable for under 5s or those with limited mobility. We recommend you wear stout footwear.

Male, female, and disabled toilets with changing facilities are available at the Colliery.

Limited Car Parking available at the Colliery, but may get muddy.

Please note: you’ll need to visit the Colliery by car: Whitehurst Lane, Dilhorne, Stoke-on-Trent, ST10 2PG.  The train does not serve the colliery and you cannot walk there from Dilhorne Park station.
